resolving host takes forever with Mandrake 10.0 official
 

Mozilla and Konquoror take forever to download large web pages in Mandrake 10.0 official installation. A good example is www.tsn.ca . Windows XP and IE loads the page instantly, with Mozilla and Konquoror it takes nearly two minutes! Last month I switched from Mandrake 9.1 to 10.0 and this is a new problem. Mandrake 9.1 was fast on my cable connection. Any ideas as to what needs to be done would be appreciated.
I have Mandrake 10.0 only on my home pc and set up a Mandrake 10.0 / Windows XP dual boot on my buddy's pc in the town next to mine. Both pc's are really slow on cable internet in Mandrake, but his is lightning fast in Windows! This leads me to beleive it is not ISP, or hardware related. Originally I thought might be Mozilla 1.6 (browser takes coffee break while resoving host) but same in Konquoror. Therefore I assume there is a problem with Mandrake configuration. I don't think this is really a related problem but, when booting in verbose mode, eth 0 failed is reported. Eth 0 does work as we still can connect to internet.
My PC- ECS K7s5a Pro, Athalon XP 2200, 768 megs ram, 64meg Gforce2ti-Mandrake 10.0
Buddy's PC- ECS K7s5a Pro, Athalon XP 2400, 256 megs ram, 64 meg Radeon 7000-Mandrake 10.0/Windoze XP

Remove the search line and the 127.0.0.1 line from your /etc/resolv.conf.

for failed eth0, disable network hotplugging in your network settings

for slow dns resolution, add the following to the /etc/modprobe.conf file:

alias net-pf-10 off

oops, forgot to say be sure and reboot after making changes... :)

Thankyou both for your help. I tried each suggestion separately, rebooting after each tweak. I removed search line in resolv.config and found it gets rewritten upon rebooting. I had no 127.0.0.1 line in resolve.config to remove. I then checked network settings and hotplugging was not enabled. Next I added alias net-pf-10 off to modprobe.conf and voila, upon rebooting, eth0 reported OK and tsn.ca as well as any other site I threw at Mozilla loaded instantly.

Stupid MDK ;) ...I just realized that it keeps coming back on my system after a reboot too.
