resolv.conf getting deleted at startup
Running Mandrake 10.1, and it's decided to delete resolv.conf during startup.
If I create the file with my gateway's dns, I'm fine. Removing connections and recreating them in the control centre works, but when I monitor the connection, it deletes the file. I'm guessing it does this same process during startup. What file needs changing to stop this happening ? Prior to this, all I can think I may have done is briefly looked at the connections, though I made no modifications that I know of  I hope I'm missing something simple :D |
I finally got hold of an error msg:
Can't update /etc/resolv.conf And it turned out that at some point I had removed the DNS from the DHCP server. Rather embarrassing really :p What surprises me is that Mandrake 10.1 (and according to one of those group postings, Mandrake 10 too) deletes the file if the DHCP client doesn't receive a DNS reply from the server. |
