Reinstalled XP and can't get into Windows

Yea so I reinstalled Winblows XP, because of one of it's thousands of problems, and now I cannot get into Mandrake Linux 10.0 anymore because the boot screen that came up at the start that allowed me to choose which OS I wanted to use is gone.

My question is How can I restore it so that it shows up again? Do I just pop in the Mandrake 10.0 cd's and reinstall again?

when windows installs it ignores any other operating systems and gets rid of lilo or grub. Therefore windows must always be intalled first. Therefore it should be as simple as popping in your mandrake install disk and reinstalling like you said.

The first Mandrake cd (also every other distro) has option to boot your Mandrake partition. Read the options to boot it, and choose the proper partition. Once you boot Mandrake, go to Mandrake Control Center and reinstall your boot loader (grub, lilo).

Insert your first install disk.
At the splash screen hit f1

when menu appears select restory linux boot loader
reboot machine and all is well.
WITH NOTHING MORE TO DO!

you could also extract the boot-sector of your linux partition and put that into the xp boot manager !

- boot some rescue system or knoppix whatever
- become root
- mount your linux partition ( e.g. /dev/hda2 ) to say /mnt
- ' chroot /mnt '
- ' grub-install /dev/hda2 ' or the equivalent for lilo whichever was installed before and worked.
- ' dd if=/dev/hda2 of=/linux-bootsect.bin bs=512 count=1 '
- copy linux-bootsect.bin to c:\
- add a line to boot.ini like

Code:
C:\linux-bootsect.bin="a nice name for your distro"
now you can use the windows boot manager to choose between windoze and linux.

Then do what courtrrb posted.
Quote:

reboot machine and all is well.
