refresh rate

After installing Mandrake 10 from the cd, the monitor exhibits ' out of range ', tried the bios but no settings in here to change. Whats the code to set the refresh rate lower? When shutting down the desktop will display prior to shutdown. I have a ATI video card and regular monitor. Thanks

Welcome to LQ.

It sounds like the issue is just that your xorg.conf file (which controls the video) is not using the correct settings for your equipment. To fix it, you can just edit the file and adjust them as needed. However, in order to do that, we need to know exactly what card and monitor you are using (make/model). Also, can you post the contents of your xorg.conf file (which will be in the /etc/X11 directory)
