Reformatted Mandrake 10 on XP dual machine can't access MDK anymore
I had quite a hard time installing MDK 10 Official to dual boot with XP. Drake kept overwritting the MBR making XP inaccessable. I finally reinstalled them both and had them working well.
I have two hard drives. The primary has xp only. The second is partitioned with nt and my linux partitions(made during mandrake install).
I have xp just the way I like it.
The way everything has worked is when I start the machine I see the goback screen come on (I only have goback installed on the primary xp drive). then I guess it was a lilo graphical screen (blue with mandrake 10 in the right lower corner) with several OS choices. I had it set up to start windows by default after 7 seconds. If I choosed mandrake, mandrake would open. No prob.
Well I decided I wanted to reformat my mandrake to use riser fs. So I put in the set up disk and did a new install of mandrake reformatting my linux partitions. I did this in expert mode. When I got to bootloader I choose skip.
Then everything would load up as before, xp working fine, but when I choose linux (or mandrake) it freezes. When I choose failsafe it says that the second stage has been overwritten or something like that.
I then upgraded the mandrake installation and had the bootloader written on the root partition. I actually unplugged my C: drive (primary) to insure it wouldn't screw up my MBR and make xp useless again. I definately don't want to go through that again.
I want to dual boot this again. I don't want to have to re install windows because mandrake overwrites the mbr or changes the NTDLT or something like that. I think I'm almost there.
Any suggestions?
