Rebooting mdk 9.2 (win 98 dual boot) after win hd fails
Hello all,
Have win 98, installed another hd (hdb) and put mdk 9.2 on it.
Win 98 hd (hda) just died. What's next? How to reboot to mdk9.2?
Found some stuff about this at mandrake users dot org - the title is
'emergency recovery III', - can't post the url (this is my first post)
Tried the rescue cd, mdk9.2 cd1, per the instructions I found, but no luck (maybe I did it wrong).
I have another good hd I can install (where the win hd went?) and maybe try 10 on it?
Spent some time setting up 9.2, would like to keep it if at all possible, while
I get mdk 10 set up (eventually)
MichealK, thanks for the reply. Did make a boot floppy, unfortunately, its been overwritten by someone else, who shall remain...wth, it was my wife.
There, I said it.
After following the intructions for the rescue cd, the screen repeats '9A' over and over, but before this, just had a cursor. I don't remember the details, tried it more than a week ago now.
Like that tagline, & looks like you've had a lot of posts.
I do not remember all of the menu options for rescue mode but after you boot the install CD select the option to mount partitions. and then go to console mode.
Now depending on wether you installed grub or lilo then:
chroot /mnt/<the root partition> I also do not remember where its mounted
