Really simple 9.2 install question

This is my first mandrake install (everything else has been RedHat)....

Installing on a new computer (nothing on the HD) when I boot with Mandrake 9.2 CD1, I just get a "grub>" prompt.

What do I do to get started? I thought DrakX was supposed to come up?

Do I need a different CD? I just downloaded disc 1 & 2.

Hi.

This might be too simple an anwser but sometimes I forget to do this:

Make sure that the computer is set to boot from the CDROM first, before any other devices. You will have to change this on the BIOS, see your motherboard's manual.

Another solution is to check out my reply to the Booting Mandrakemove thread, for information on how to check if you have a corrupted ISO image file.

PS. You will still need CD3. Yes, you can just click on "Cancel" when the installation requires it, and Mandrake will install and boot "just fine" but there are alot of good applications in that CD that make it ALOT better!

Hmm... that did it. Thanks!

kinda weird, you'd'a thought that it would skip over the HD being that there's nothing on it. ::shrug::

Not really weird at all. There was something there. I think that this is a direct result of formatting the drive using a "quick" option. The boot sector "grub>" was still intact from the last operating system, and ofcourse the BIOS saw this.

Glad I could help. Enjoy Mandrake!

Yeah, you're right - after I posted that last one I remembered that I had previously attempted to install RH on that drive. So many drives in the office - hard to keep them all straight.

Thanks again.
