read only error Mandrake 10 Community

I'm just a newbie and after many hours of finally getting Mandrake 10 Community runnning with apache, perl , mysql it broke. I was ftping some files from a windows machine to my Mandrake box.

Now files in other directories and for other users are read only. I have never installed samba. Maybe it auto installed? I cannot chmod files as root as any user with out read-only error

I checked /etc/fstab and this is empty and gave me the error as being read only. I think my entire drive is read only. Yikes.

Take a look at this post here. It is just like my problem but no one provided a working answer.

I can't post URL but do a search on "read-only file system" within the forums. 177066

Here is one error I get using mkdir:

[root@localhost scripts]# mkdir test
mkdir: cannot create directory `test': Read-only file system

I have one 40 gig hard drive with only Mandrake on it. unless if Mandrake tried to install Samba.

Also I once was able to go in with Webmin but now I can't. I can telnet into it. also have access to the phisical box.
