Random freeze
I get random system freeze with mdk 10.0 offical for no apparent reasons, it froze once at boot while loading, sometime after 5 minutes sometimes after 3hours.
Each time it happens I have to manually reboot the system What could cause this? and is there any cure? /Edit Don't now if it is related but at the bootloader I didn't select Enable ACPI Force no APIC Force no Local APIC |
ummm......lot's of things could cause that. kernel panic, a renegade app, xfree86 is borked in some way. 2 things............... do you have nvidia drivers installed? if so, random freezes are known to happen, but there's an easy fix by adding an option to xf86config-4. if that don't apply, then have a look at /var/log, mainly the followoing logs............. xfree86, syslog, user. if you need the nvidia fix, let me know, i'll help ya. if something looks fishy in the logs & you're not sure, post it & i'll try to help ya.
EDIT: i just read your edit. disable acpi in mcc->system->services from loading at boot. then, edit lilo.conf. look for where ever it says acpi= & make it say acpi=off. don't forget to run lilo -v in terminal as root, then reboot. otis |
I do have a nvidia nforce 2 but the the driver should be ATI

if you don't have the problem solved yet & before i offer a suggestion, could you please post your XF86Config-4 file? (it's in /etc/x11)

I just enabled
Force no APIC Force no Local APIC and didn't had a single crash since |
