raid1 on mandrake 10 with 2x SATA drives

Need help on setting up raid1 with 2x SATA seagate barracuda harddrives on mandrake 10.
Got mandrake 10 installed no problem!(Thatīs the easy part!)
I read that Linux doesnīt support hardware SATA raid but software SATA raid.
Is this case?
Tried setting up the raid but when using the mkraid command i keep on recieving an error:
[root@FileServer root]# mkraid /dev/md0
handling MD device /dev/md0
analyzing super-block
disk 0: /dev/sda6, 70830553kB, raid superblock at 70830464kB
disk 1: /dev/sdb5, 71931006kB, raid superblock at 71930880kB
mkraid: aborted, see the syslog and /proc/mdstat for potential clues.
[root@FileServer root]# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities :
md0 : inactive
unused devices: <none>

Any solutions???
