Post Quick questions on Mandrake World...

Recently I have installed Mandrake 10 but after being a Debian user for more than 6 months, there are a few things that I miss in Mandrake......

For instance:

- installing packages and automatically their respective dependencies from the net with the command-line environment ( apt-get install *package* );

- search for packages/libraries from the command-line ( sort of like 'apt-cache search' command in Debian ).

Is there a similar thing in Mandrake and / in rpm based distros?

Also, I wanted to create a file-sharing server-client network at home - one machine I have Debian and the other I have Mandrake.

The thing is that the programs I need to be installed ( nfs-common / nfs-server ) and I can't seem to find in Mandrake nor even one that can substitute nfs-*. Any ideas on this subject?

Thanks you all guys.......

Mandrake/Redhat provides a great RPM based equivalent to apt-get called urpmi.

"out of the box" urpmi only knows about the contents of the CD's you used to install Mandrake from, and unfortunately in order to see more PowerPack editions Mandrake doesn't tell you that there is another way to get the same thing and MORE!

So go here:

http://www.zebulon.org.uk/urpmi_en.html

http://www.zebulon.org.uk/

and follow the directions for setting up upmi.

Then ALWAYS use urpmi FIRST when you want a new package, as it will keep things consistent.

Once you have set up the sources as indicated you can also go to the "Install Software" gui to browse and install the myriad of packages available to you.

urpmi will automatically install and deal with any dependancies and package requirements.

BTW:

urpmi nfs

will suffice, also going into MCC.
