Sorry for all these questions. I dont have another PC that runs Linux. So I'd rather investigate this all at once then having to reboot and reboot into Linux.

YES, when you disable your network card the boot process won't stall trying to configure the network card anymore...

you just told me you connected to the internet using a modem, which has nothing to do with your network card...

Now, on the "bootloader land", during the Installation process in DrakX, as I recall, It did not ask me whether I should choose LILO or GRUB. It just did something automatically.

Now for setting the timer, what should I do when I put in the Installation CD???? What do I do from there?

yeah, it probably installed grub by default, this is why when you selected to use lilo it asked you for the cd, so it could install lilo since you didn't have it...

i'm not sure how to disable the timeout in mmc, i'd guess by setting it to zero or something...

you can change the resolution in the mmc... look in the "system" part or maybe the "hardware"... you want to find the option to configure your monitor or your display or something... it's all there in the mmc...

Whats better??? LILO or GRUB?

When you insert the CD, you just have to click the OK button, sit back and relax. It will install the files that it needs and that will be that. It won't reinstall the OS or anything crazy like that.

I use LILO and it is just fine for me. I've never used Grub. They both do the same thing so the choice is really up to you.

Back to the "eth0" issue.

I looked under Hardware and I found the list of hardware. One of them being Ethernet Card/Ethernet Pro-100 something like that.

I selected Run Config. and it brought up a Internet Connection Wizard. Im confused at this point on what to do. Because right now I dont want to set up my Connection. I only want to solve the slow bootup (Bringing up interface eth0) problem. It stalls for a minute or so.

In the Wizard I kept on selsecting Next, to see what it would look like and it said "Installing Packages" and again it prompted me to insert the CD.

BTW, I got to the resolution all figured out except that my screen has black edges on the sides.

i'm sure there's an option to disable the card in there somewhere... try looking a little closer, and stay away from those wizards and druids and stuff... LOL...

ethernet is a type of network... so by saying ethernet card you're simply being a little more specific about the type of network card...

I remember seeing in the Wizard, to "Disable Auto Detection" or "Expert Mode"

And also, the list is like a tree. I selected Ethernet Card and it pulled down the Ethernet Card Pr0-100 or something like that and then selected Run Config.

But whats an Interactive mode on the top? It says Press "I"

And I also looked at original intallation guide. maybe its under "Selecting Available Services at Boot Time"

If thats the case, then how could I go back and redo the DrakX thing????

Ok guys at least one mission was accomplished.

I went to the Boot Config popped in the CD and changed the default to GRUB. with a 3600 second boot delay:D
So, if I want to have a boot delay of "No Time Limit" AT ALL then how would I enter the value???

I played around with this eth0 thing. My results were this:

I went into the NIC Wizard, and used the auto-detect option to configure the connections and I noticed that the "LAN or ethernet card detected" box was checked. So I unchecked it. Then of course, I popped in the CD to install and configure it and after that I went back to the Wizard and the check mark was still there after I unchecked it. Why is it doing this?

Then the next try I went in there again and checked "Use modem connection" I checked that and then I went back to the Wizard, and still the ethernet was checked.


But, I do not really want to setup my Internet Connection yet. But is there a way to not have Linux detect the eth0 Interface upon bootup??

If my Modem (US Robotics 56K Fax) is not compatible with this Mandrake, what should I do then?

How could I setup my Internet Connection?

Another thing, under the NIC Wizard, what should I select? Use Winmodem or Standard modem, ISDN, or Ethernet? I dont know which one to select, if you guys would help me out.

I really hope there is a way to have my Internet going.:(
