question about bootsplash

Originally I had the stock 2.4.22-10mdk kernel and the bootsplash screen worked and looked great. Then I did MandrakeUpdate and it upgraded my kernel to 2.4.22-28mdk and when it boots it does not do the cool bootsplash thing. Why? and What can I do to get it back? Also, whenever I boot with the -10mdk kernel the bootsplash still works, so what is the deal with the -28mdk kernel?

Look in your /etc/lilo.conf

You should add something like this:

append=" splash=silent"

To your 2.4.22-28mdk section. If there is already an append line, just add the
splash=silent part. For example:

append=" hdc=ide-scsi splash=silent"

If there was already an hdc=ide-scsi parameter.

Then execute 'lilo' on the command line to get it to write to the mbr.

It already has that line. For one, when the RPM of the kernel installed it changed the reference from my default linux to the new kernel which means it kept all of the append stuff. I then however, made a new entry in the lilo.conf file to point to the old kernel and copied all of the append stuff to it. So, therefore, it is not a problem with the lilo file, as both entries are exactly the same.

the problem could be that you don't have in lilo the string "vga=xxx" where xxx is the vga mode.
Look to the old lilo entries and copy it to the new boot section.
Otherwise, please post your lilo.conf file.
bye

Actually, I think the problem is the initrd.img file, but I would not know how to modify it to get it to use the splash screen. The -28mdk kernel uses a different initrd.img file than the -10mdk does, I tried telling lilo to use the -10mdk initrd.img file for the -28mdk kernel and the splash screen starts to work but then the -28mdk kernel does not boot. So, I need to use the -28mdk initrd.img file with the -28mdk kernel but somehow I need to modify it to use the boot splash screen. If anyone knows how, please tell me.
