Properly shutting down
 
please do not laugh or ignore me... i am a noob. i know some things but... what is the proper way to shutdown?, whenever i boot my system back up it says improper shutdown and i have to configure certain hardware devices through menus before i even log in. i tried clicking shutdown from the menus that offer that choice it just brings me to the log in page right away. please help

stupid mouse... :confused: :cry:

which distro/desktop are you using?

imho, the best way is to login as root, and do:

# shutdown -h now

the -h means "halt." if you want to reboot, you can do:

# shutdown -r now

(or "reboot" :p)
