Unhappy Problems with GUI in Mandrake 10

Hi!

I just installed Mandrake 10 Official in my Toshiba Satellite M30, it has a GeForce Fx go 5200 card.

I was not careful enough to select the proper dirver during the installation process and after I reboot the system, it appears to load properly (lots of "OKs" while loading) but then when it switches from text mode to the GUI (KDE) I get a blue screen and it stays there. I'm almost positive that it has to do with the driver selection.

How can I change the hardware setup if I don't get to the GUI? Can I change the previously selected drivers and HW? Can this be done in the failsafe mode? what would be the commands to execute?

I would very much appreciate any comments or help.

thanks

boot into failsafe, then login as root, then type XFdrake at the command prompt. that will bring up the configuration module for your video card. select the proper drivers (probably GEforce(X) (generic) for that card), test the configuration. if you get a multi coloured lined test screen, you're good to go. save the seettings, restart X or reboot.

Thanks for the info. It did help me to try new alternatives and combinations between the graphic card and the display type, but none of the combinations gave me the screen I was expecting and I always got either a blue screen or a blue creen with some violet sqaures in the middle.

I think I need to install the NVIDIA drivers.

Thanks for the help

I think the default driver for Nvidia in mandrake is "nv" . did you try that one?

Well, using XFdrake I've tested all the NVIDIA drivers available combined with different resolutions and differet display types (very painful to do!!), so I assume that it has been using the "nv" driver, however I have read in other treads that the better one for MDK 10 is "nvidia". I have downloaded the driver from www.nvidia.com and I will install it.

I hope that works because I really want to test this OS.

Thanks
