Problems with 9.2 and Nvidia driver
Hi
Posting on linuxquestions.org has saved me several times in the past and now I will try once more to see if Lady Luck is there for me :-) I have got my hands on MDK 9.2 from Linux Format and rushed home to upgrade/install 9.2 on my pc already running MDK 9.1. Tried a fresh install at first but nothing was as I wanted it to be, my SB Live did not work, could not use Danish language and I could not install the Nvidia driver. I installed 9.1, installed the Nvidia driver(no problems) and went for an upgrade with the 9.2 discs but what happened, it would not start in X as it could not use the Nvidia driver. I had to remove the "nvidia" line from XF86Config-4 and replace it with the default "nv". Apparently the kernel is not compiled with Nvidia support but I not know how to. Someone pls. give me a hint ? Thnx. |
Hi,
For the NVIDIA driver, you have to download and install the kernel source. This rpm package can be found in the RPMS directory on any of the Mandrake's mirror sites. The kernel source was not included on the ISOs. As for the sound, run the KMIX app. from the menu and set the Master and PCM volumes up... I had no sound too and I have a SB Live! card. By doing this, it resolved my problem... |
Even after downloading the source and installing the driver properly, go into the XF86Config-4 and add the following line in the device section...
Option "NvAGP" "1" Also change the "nv" to "nvida" This worked for me. :-) |
