Problems starting GUI

Hi,
I have been using the Mandriva 2006 Power Pack for a week and it has been really good. My Video, ATI 9600, works and my wireless I got loaded with a problem. But some how I messed up my starting config file. When I start up, instead of getting the graphic screen to log in, I get the tty1 screen. I have to log in and then use startx to go into KDE.
I can't switch between desktops, when I log out the only option I have is to log out and then I get taken back to tty1 screen.
I am not sure which file I am supposed to check to get my GUI login back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

/etc/initrc

you should change the runlevel from 3 to 5.

that's right, inittab... sorry.

I use gentoo and it doesn't work with runlevels that way.
