Problems installing my SATA hard Drive
Hey guys,
Anyone have problems while installing Mandrake 10.1 and not being able to detect thier HD. I have been able to install Fedora core2 and it worked fine. I have a Seagate ST3120026AS SATA HD, and a Dell Dimension 8300 motherboard. Any help I am stuck and i need to wipe windows off my machine and I want to install the new mandrake. Thanks in Advance. I'm kinda lost in what you said. If you go into linux and type "cat /proc/partitions" without the quotes, and post it, then we could go from there.
If you don't have a running linux system, then say so, and we will pick up there instead. |
yah ... i wish i could no running linux system, ie mandrake as of yet i just burned the fedora core3 DVD and it works fine but mandrake is giving me issues and i would rather install it that another at the moment. maybe it is my DVD copy but who knows..

Is your HDD on a primary or RAID SATA? Sounds like Mandrake install CD boot kernel doesn't support your SATA chipset. I moved my HDD from the NForce3 SATA chipset to my Silicon Image SATA RAID chipset and it worked fine then. After install, I was able to change it back to NForce3 chipset. If this info isn't applicable to you, I'd start by telling us your mobo and disk configurations.
