Unhappy Problems in installing Mandriva Linux 2006 - Please help


Hi to all,
Guys i am a newbie to linux

now i heard about Mandriva linux 2006 and was impressed by its interface

now when i try to install the OS following error message pops up and i am unable to install the linus

Installing driver for hard drive controller nVIDIA Corporation | CK804 Serial ATA Controller



now agter this message my system becomes idle
no HDD movement (Ie light dont blinks)
no cd movement (Ie light dont blinks)

i even waited for 10 min but nothing happened

please help me in this regard as i really want this OS to install on my system

my system configuration is


CPU - AMD Athlon64 3200+
Mobo - ASUS A8NE
HDD - WD 250 GB sata 2
GPU - nVIDIA 6600GT
Ram - 1 GB
DVD writer - lite on

please help

Try the CD in another computer, You can exit the install if it starts to work without writing anything to the disk.

This will just make sure that the CD rom disk is OK.

If it is OK, then you may need to turn off acpi, acpi=off, but I think it is either a bad burn to cd or a broken download.

MD5 check is a way to check the ISO before burning, google is your friend.

Mine did that its hanging because of the SATA controller

This is exactly what my problem is.I just added my first sata drive and want to install mandriva on another partition.

My box gets hung at the same nvidia controller notice.I'll try the noapic.

Thanks for doing the legwork for me

Just thought I'd let you know passing "noapic" to the kernel cured my nvidia controller hang.
