problem with fglrx driver Mandriva 2006 LE Beta 3

Hi,
I install Mandriva 2006 Beta3 on my PC and Iḿ very impressed of good working distro. There is only problem with installing of fglrx driver. First there is no fglrx driver supprt in Mandriva 2006 LE Beta3. I try to install driver from ATI web site (rpm -Uhv fglrx_6_8_0-8.16.20-1.i386.rpm --force), but unsuccessfully! On first look during install everythink is OK, but after rebooting my display is very bright and when I check for loading of module fglrx - he is not present (lsmod) on system. Then I try to load manualy (with insmod), but error messages received. My kernel is 2.6.12-10mdksmp, but I try also with 2.6.12-10mdk, result was the same. I have allready installed kernel sources. Then I try with new ATI installer, but result was the same. What can be a problem?

Regards,
Valyo

I guess it might be because of mandriva beta use different Xorg than supported by ati driver. I have check ati websites, current xorg supported is 6.8.2 while Mandriva 2006 used 6.9 cvs.
I wondering how to remove Xorg installed by mandriva and then install the correct one which suppoerted by the driver.

I agree with you. May be next driver of ATI will support Xorg 6.9. I allready update my Xorg to latest version from Mandriva web site and will wait for next release from ATI web site.

Do you try to install fglrx drivers from ATI web site on Mandriva 2006 LE RC1? Because Beta 3 is work fine, but I have problems to use TV Out and this is a reason to try upgrading of original drivers (radeon) with fglrx driver.

I guess RC1 is mandriva 2006.0 0.4... i have install this one on my laptop that used mobility radeon X700
I try install fglrx driver, configure it but X wont start. It said something file needed unresolved.
that file is from fglrx driver. Just asking, can I remove installed X and install the compatible one?

Yes, it is possible, but better wait for updated drivers from ATI web site. Most of new distributions will use Xorg 6.9. This mean that ATI (hopefoly) will provide compatible driver soon (may be next driver?).

You can easy repair.

1. Become root
2. remove installed rpm with command rpm -e fglrx* (instead of fglrx you must use package name)
3. run "XFdrake"
4. choose your last driver
5. reboot

Finaly I did it!!!
There is a little complicated procedure:
1. Download file X11R6.8.2-src.tar.gz from xorg web site.
2. DONT uninstall xorg 6.9 !!!!
3. Unpack file to some folder
4. Then start making of sources. Because some errors are received during compiling time, this process must be started with this commands:

make WORLDOPTS=-k WORLD > World.log 2>&1

Then must be patient, because this is a slow process (1 hour or more depend of speed of PC)
5. Then start checking of bulding of sources:

tail -f World.log
You must receive similar message: "Xorg 6.8.2 build successfuly"

6. Become root
7. Then switch to runlevel 3 (init 3)
8. Then install sources with following command:
make install
I receive some errors at end of installation regarding building of fbmm driver or similar, but this is not a problem.
9. Then and finaly: rpm -Uhv fglrx_6_8_0-8.16.20-1.i386.rpm --force
Installer will find your version of Xorg 6.9, but everythink is compiled without errors and after reboot fglrx driver is loaded without errors.

10. fglrxconfig and choose options for 2 monitors (clone mode) during configuration, because if not in my PC TVOUT is working fine, but Monitor is too bright and when I choose "clone mode" everythink is work fine.
11. REBOOT
12. fglrxinfo - every think must be OK

Now I have more than 2100fps with glxgears, and all extras of driver is work fine. My TVOut also work. My video card is ATI Radeon 9200 128Mb, 128b with DVI and TVOut.

Last step (10) is not mandatory, if everythink is work fine there is no need to choose "clone mode".

There is some limitations:
1. My Monitor now is work only on 60Hz, I must work on this problem to increase the refresh rate.
2. My TVOut port must be permanent connected to TV during boot of Mandriva 2006 LE Beta 3, because if not my monitor is become too bright but very interesting refresh rate is 85Hz ?

For me now it is a good solution, except refresh rate on my Monitor. I will try to increase refresh rate, but if anyone has some ideas, please let me know.
Regards,
Valyo
