Problem: SM56 PCI on Mandrake 10 (New Driver)

Hi there,

I was hoping someone here might be able to help me
install drivers for SM56PCI Modem on Madrake 10.

I have downloaded the latest drivers (New Motorola Version) archive from
Motorola site. (I canīt put the new link here)
However, after installation complete. My modem don't work. My Kppp and
Minicom do not recognize the modem. I'm using this command to install:
#rpm -i sm56-06.05.02-2.mdk10_263-7.i586
Could someone tell me the correct way to intall this modem??

Thanks

Diogo

I am stuck with the same problem, please let me know if you find a solution,
I really don't understand why Motorola released an untested driver.

Wink SM56 the same problem all over the world

I have the same problem here.
SM56 driver doesnt work, and when i run it dmesg returns message, something like "Linux API cannot open device".
What would be wrong?
I tought it was an dependecies problem, so i tryed to load many modules. Whitout results.
I think Motorola (TM) released an untested driver. It can be true because when the installation was made, the script ordered to reboot the system, so when i rebooted sm56 was not louded! I had to load it, and edit modprobe to load it at intialization. I guess it order to reboot to do it.

I think it is impossible that motorola released an untested driver, thus i will install the original kernel version 2.6.3, i think it can be the problem.
