Hi i am a newbie and wanted to install Mandirva 2007 DVD version on my new computer. so,

can anyone tell me why this happens:

while installing Mandriva 2007 DVD version (kernel version 2.5.4 maybe) on:

CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+ 2000MHz
BIOS Phoenix - Award BIOS v6.00PG (06-Mar-2007)
Motherboard HA01-GT NF-MCP55-6A61JJ19C-00 (Socket 940)
RAM 1.00 Gb (1 048 044 Kb) A0: 1024 Mb(Other,Unknown,EDO,6 ns)
HD Seagate ST3160812AS 160G
Video Card ATI Radeon X1650 Series (256.0 Mb): 1680 x 1050 - True Color (32 bit)
Audio Onboard Realtek High Definition Audio
NIC Netcore 802.11g/b Wireless LAN Client Adapter
Display MAG W22B 1680 x 1050 DVI interface
MX518 Optical Mouse (Logitech) & Keyboard

I started with DVD boot, after secleting language, preceed, it loads the linux kernel to 100%. then, the screen flickers once, and,,,,,, just left me a blank! that means computer was working but shown nothing but a full screen black color. HD and CDROM not reading or anything else. system halted. no matter how i changed the settings (disable APTI, remove the NIC, even remove HD), it's all the same.

tried text mode but it halts after 'initializing Cryptographic API' and some 'io .... registered', the last line was 'io cfg registered'.

Now the question: how should I install Mandriva?

It took me forever to figure out how to get 2007 to install. On a lot of machines you need to pass some kernel parameters at boot. (of the install disk)

When the firse splach screen appears, with the options to istall, boot from HD etc, hit escape )"esc" and ok the "are you sure" message. The graphical install will return, you will not be forced to do a text-only install

Then type at the "boot" prompt (without the "" quotes):

linux noapic nolapic acpi=off ide=nodma

Then hit enter. I sure hope that fixes it for you. It should if your problem is the same I'd been banging on.
