I am using Mandrake 10.0. I am trying to install an Epson Stylus C84 printer. The connection is USB. I've tried installing it several times, but when Printerdrake comes up it ALWAYS freezes when searching for new hardware. Any ideas? Thanks.
Assuming you have cups installed you may be able to add your printer and some printer configurations from your browser. http://localhost:631/
It's not printerdrake but it's a fairly good utility.
So I installed the linux driver supplied by samsung
Help files says to run setup.sh since i got an error message i typed sh setup.sh
Installation seems to go fine menu pop up and I press Start to launch the Linux LPR
Then when adding a printer it says: Samsung ML-1710 Series (SPL II) detected on USB port /dev/usblp0
but when I click OK
I get this message: The specified device (/dev/usblp0) does not exist
Also in the background I get this message in the konsole
Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkcombo.c: line 849 (gtk_combo_set_popdown_strings): assertion `strings != NULL' failed.
did you ever get this fixed? I'm curious, because I'm still fighting with my Epson cX3200 USB printer in M10. I'm not sure if it is the usb port (they're listed in the config tool but not in /dev/usb) or the printer drivers (tried various things at linuxprinting.org)
