Printer gui won't come up completely

After trying to get my Mandriva 2006 free box to recognize a printer that's on my WinXp box i finally changed one of the settings in CUPS. Now, when i run the GUI MCC and choose Printer Setup, a number of small windows come up and shut (something which i think they used to do anyway) and the "main" printer config. window comes up but nothing is selectable. All it will allow me to do is to shut it. It won't show any printers.

I disinstalled CUPS, shut down the box, booted it again and reinstalled CUPS but it still does the same thing. Is there something i can reinstall short of reinstalling the whole OS?

Arg, feel like i'm spending more time trying to get this OS to work than i am getting any useful work done. Anyway, have great evening!

just a suggestion...

I don't how did you installed CUPS, but try deinstall it, restart, the in the MCC select add new printer and let your Mandriva ask for the CD (or DVD) and install CUPS by itself. It worked for me perfectly with local printer.

Wow, eddiep, that was a good idea. i had thought about it and forgot it. i disinstalled CUPS through the MCC Uninstall Software wizard and then reinstalled it through the same wizard. i'll try it and let you know.

Have a great day!
