Please, helpme on Mandrake 10.1 !!!!
 

I have a sound blaster live 5.1 card installed on my computer that works fine on windows xp, but on linux, it doesn´t works!! I tried alsaconf, and all turns ok, the card is recognizated by alsaconf and configurated, but all the time I start kde comes the message: no sound card .... no such file or device...
When I use lsmod, all the modules were on , but there is no sound !!
I don´t know what to do!!

sometimes alsa decided to turn the volume of your device all the way down, so that it actually works... you just don't hear it! If that's not the case try something other than alsa? ie - OSS or Arts?

KDE will issue that error when you are using an ALSA system level driver, but KDE is defaulting to something else, such as direct /dev/dsp manipulation or OSS.

You need to go into the KDE "sound system" and choose arts instead.

Also as dickohead (moniker?) said, the default sound levels at startup have everything almost all the way down.

Install aumix

urpmi aumix

And turn up the sliders.

The "SAVE" the configuration.

This should get alsa to reset the default values at startup.

You still may see an error at Linux's boot, but that's ok.
