pcmcia and mandriva 2007 free
 

Have just installed madriva 2007 free download version. Also have just bought an orinocco gold pcmcia card. THe only thing is mandriva does not detect it. All modules concerning pcmcia are installed. When i try to view it using kde configure it tell me there is no pcmcia controller installed. Am still quite new to linux so am stuck as to what to do next. Any help would be great

without the card in
run drakxservices and check the pcmcia and hardrake (this is used
to recognise new hardware) are started at boot,
maybe reboot (a bit unecesary)
as root in a terminal type
lshw | less (q for quit)
if the controller is not listed you are in trouble

also
tail -n3000 /var/log/syslog | less
look for clues there

There's a problem with some laptops, you might need to add pci=assign-busses or pci=noacpi as kernel parameters. See:
