packages removed with urpmi --auto-select
I tried to update all my packages on my Mandrake 10 using the easy urpmi (something I've previously done with no problems) but now I seemed to have losts many packages.

The steps I took were:

1. urpmi.removemedia -a
2. then I added contrib, main, updates, plf, club & jpackage media from
3. urpmi --auto-select

now my system starts in text mode and I don't even have the startx command.

What went wrong? how can I fix this??

just guessing here, but did you have nvidia or ati video drivers installed? if so, when you updated like that you more than likely got an updates of xfree/xorg & or the kernel. and, if so, you will need to reinstall video drivers & re-edit the XF86Config-4/xorg.conf file(s). but, before doing so, make sure you have a matching kernel & kernel-source.
