Ok, so I have Mandrake 10.1 installed on my laptop (Gateway 7210GX, AMD Athlon-M 2.2Ghz, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD)
quote:uname -a Linux risc-mobile 2.6.8.1-12mdk #1 Fri Oct 1 12:53:41 CEST 2004 i686 Mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3000+ unknown GNU/Linux I have noticed some sluggish performance (MP3s "pausing" for short periods, slow loading of programs (i know stuff should load slower than what it does in Windows, but this is a bit longer than usual)) I was wondering what can be done to prevent this from happening. When listening to music, I think it is a bit annoying when it pauses a lot in the song. |
My fingers are getting numb because I post this so often...
Please try the search... 1) Go to /etc/sysconfig and edit the file called harddisks UNCOMMENT the indicated lines 2) Edit /etc/lilo.conf and towards the top, but not at the very top, add a new line which reads compact Then as root type "lilo" at a prompt. Now shutdown and reboot. Your pausing problems should now be gone while Mandrake will run much faster. |
sorry for all the typing im making you do, but i did a search on the forums and nothing came up.
i'll give what you said a shot and report back |
hmm, im not using lilo, will this affect this?
i opened up the file with nano, but there was nothing in there. |
Search works just fine, and you would have found it by searching.
What is most important is the /etc/sysconfig/harddisks modification. |
