OpenBox config and desktop decdorations

Hi, anyone here using openbox/blackbox with Mandriva 2010.x?

Actually I'm on cooker (2010.1), don't laugh!

I was getting a bit peeved with kde4(cooker) and have installed openbox.

I'm just wondering if anybody else is doing something similar.

Discuss? options, configs, and beautifying openbox bare desktop.

I realise that openbox is a bare minimum WM, but it is customisable. and I have seen some nice screen shots, but mostly for the newb distro Ubuntu. (no offence intended)

I'm trying to install the bbrun, bbpager, etc, but having probs compiling the source packages, because I don't have libbt0 installed in the right place for OBox to find(pk-config)

Cheers, Glenn

hi

since you are open to suggestions...I run a debian system....I have lxde running on openbox.

lxde allows for creation of icons
has theme/visuals changing thru
---icon open box config = command obconf
---icon appearance = command lxappearance

Thanks for the responce, I have lxde installed as well.

But I have not(did not realise) been able to edit the menu sufficiently to add the progs I generally use.

LXDE is nice, it's working fine, but It is listed on the login page along with kde4, openbox, blackbox.

So, I thought they were separate. I can navigate with middle-click to change desktops 1-6, and I can use the shell to launch programs.

I've been trying to install some openbox apps by source, but I get hungup on (invisible) deps.

not too many rpm's out there, that install with out complaints.

Mandriva have added openbox to the repos, but it's bare bones. (It is supposed to be, I know, but...)

I'm still working on it. I'm using it (openbox) exclusively atm.

Cheers, Glenn

My experience is if rpms complain (missing dependencies?) installing from source will be even worse. Have you tried su'ing to root in a terminal and typing: urpmi bbrun? I just did that and it installed in about two seconds. Whatever dependencies you're missing urpmi will find and ask you if it's okay to install them, too. If you answer yes (i.e. y <enter>) it installs them all -- bam -- just like that. I have to confess I couldn't find libtt0 listed as something bbrun needs, or at all, for that matter. Which library is it? I'm running 2010.0, by the way. I'm waiting for 2010.1 to get to beta before installing. I've got my own issue, which is gnome locking out anything other than metacity as its friggin window manager. Grrr. (I want sawfish.)

Good luck,
Dale

lib64bt0-0.70.1-12mdv2010.0.x86_64

I eventually got this rpm from http://rpm.pbone.net/

I'm still working on it.

It's working as I stated above, which is minimal, but functional.

Yes I have tried all of your tips, hence the question.

Thank you for responding, I'll post back in a day or 2 with my outcomes (long weekend).

cheers (happy holidays), and regards Glenn
