Onboard sound issue

Hi there

I am a linux beginner and I need your help getting my sound card to work properly. I have STFW and I found out i need to run Alsaconf from the root, but when I do that I get a error saying:

bash: alsaconfig: command not found

I use Mandrake Linux 9.1.

Also when I go to Configuration>KDE>information and when I select sound I get a message that says No information about sound-card!

What should I do?

LoL;

Once again I figured out how to fix a problem again.

All I had to do was compile the latest alsa driver

Edit*

Spoke to soon, It seems that I still can't get any sound on the Flash player How can I do that?

Also seems that my sound card isn't getting detected still!

Guess i still need your help

Hi, do you have any idea what kind of sound card is installed ?

Can you paste output of dmesg :

You can also try another distro that probably will detect it for you ( damnsmalllinux is a live distro that can detect your configuration when mdk cannot ).

Give more information.

Your sound card is detected

trident: SiS 7018 PCI Audio found at IO 0xd000, IRQ 11
ac97_codec: AC97 Audio codec, id: ALC38 (Unknown)
ac97_codec: AC97 Modem codec, id: SIL33 (Unknown)

Look at your speakers first, turn sound up at 100 % ( using kmix for instance ), are your speakers pluged on the right device ??

Also, have you sound when Root ??

Here is another thing.

Whenever I go to Mandrake control center and select HardDrak, it always says ALSA is not running. Then when I click start it does not start up! I selected the box the says start on boot and when I rebooted my computer the setting go restored to the defaults!

I also tried change to driver to another one and it worked! but then when I come back on today the sound card does not work anymore!!!!

For the love of God PLEASE help me!

Sound problem

Yeah, I have the same onboard card that you have Super and it always gets recognized no matter what distro I've used. I'm running Slack 9.1 and it works okay. I had to make sure that the sound was turned up everywhere though. Use the command 'alsamixer' to turn up the main sound and then use the GUI sound volume to turn up the sound as well.

I am having a sound problem with mine though. The when using XMMS the sound will become distorted. It also happens when I use mpg123 ( these are mp3 format ), however not as noticeable. I haven't found anyone with this same problem yet, but since this is the same card I posted it here.
