NVIDIA GeFORCE 8400M GS setup

I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card and 13.3-inch WXGA screen with LED backlight.

I recently installed Mandriva-2007 spring one from the Live CD but am having problems starting the X-server (and thus logging in) after changing the monitor resolution in the Mandriva configuration center..

When rebooting I get sent to the X-server configuration screen where I set:

Graphics card - Nvidia GeForce 8300-8800

Monitor - Dell 1280 x 800 laptop display panel (16/10)

(also tried the generic panel and didn't work)

Resolution - 1280 x 800 16bpp

(in Windows Vista my display settings are optimal at 1280 x 800, 32bit)

Unfortunately when I try to test these settings or run with them my system freezes and I have to force a restart

Does anyone have any ideas please ?

On top of this looks like I've hosed my system by messing around with this as I get a "no inittab found" now upon rebooting and can't access the X-server settings...

I guess I'll re-install from the CD as contrary to what I've read pressing F1 from the CD splash screen does not allow me to access a prompt and enter rescue mode..

I re-installed Mandriva and successfully installed the drivers according to this thread:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=194100

One problem though..I would like ot edit my account settings but I am unable to open "Add, remove or change users of the system" in the Mandriva Linux control center...it doesn't highlight blue when I put the cursor over it and left-clicking does nothing...Weird..

Any ideas please ?

Hi, pressing Esc usually gets me to the boot prompt.

the config tools come in packages like drakxtools and drakconf.
ie.
drakxtools
drakxtools-(backend)
drakxtools-(http)
drakxtools-(curses)

Try to re-install them, and any dependencies.

Cheers, Glenn
