nvidia driver 6629 freezes MDK10.1
Please can someone help sort this : I've looked into the X log file but cant see anything to explain whats happening. Where else can I look or are there some tests to check out the system. When the system freezes it all dies, I cant even ssh in from another computer.
I have downloaded the latest driver from NVidia and it installed OK. X works fine with the "nv" driver. The system works with MDK10.0 and an earlier nvidia driver version. If the nvidia module is not loaded at startup , startx fails with a n error showing "failed to initialise the nvidia kernal module". If the nvidia module is loaded via modules.preload then startx freezes the computer. I've forced the installer to compile a kernal module on my system but that doesnt work either. Any Ideas ? Further info : the graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce2 Integrated (generic) on the motherboard which is an ASUS A7N266-E Output of cat /proc/version = Linux version 2.6.8.1-10mdk (nplanel@n3.mandrakesoft.com) (gcc version 3.4.1 (Mandrakelinux (Alpha 3.4.1-3mdk)) #1 Wed Sep 8 17:00:52 CEST 2004 |
Usually these are agpgart issues.
Make sure that the agp module is being loaded.. then read the directions on modifying the AGP settings in the X configuration file for the nvidia drivers. DIABLE write combining and step the AGP speed down to say 2x until you have things running smoothly, then step up until failure... |
