nvidia and videos
Hello
I have the hp pavilion zv5000z laptop with AMD 64, Nvidia, the 1680x1050 display and have installed Mandriva LE. Mandriva recognizes all of these and uses I guess a generic nvidia driver. I downloaded the nvidia driver, installed it and modified xorg.conf(changed nv to nvidia). Unfortunately, the next time I booted, the screen was dark-brownish and a mess.
The biggest problem is that I cannot see videos with any player(using the default nv driver). Xine for instance. Only sound works. Totem doesn't work at all and gives the error "BadAlloc" when I type "totem" in the console. Mplayer(gmplayer) plays audio files, but freezes with video files. And Real Player refuses to be installed with the message: "error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory", although I have the newest version of libstdc++.
Thank's !

I think that's more a codecs problem then a driver problem, if you would ask me. Try installing mplayer from source. It has to be the only program that I always recommend to install from source . It gives better performance and the documentation is great.
If you are not sure how to install things from source, take a look in here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=45094
MPlayer's documentation should be spot on too. Read it carefully, it's necessary to install the codecs before installing mplayer.
Regards!

If the codecs are installed in the /usr/lib/win32 then you can always change the video driver. From xv to x11/xv

Dear Megaman X and webterractive
thank's for giving me hope. I installed gmplayer from source following all the instructions as far as I can tell. When I type gmplayer as root, I get :
MPlayer 1.0pre7-3.4.3 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team
CPU: Advanced Micro Devices Athlon 64 Clawhammer (Family: 8, Stepping: 10)
Detected cache-line size is 64 bytes
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 3DNow 3DNowEx SSE SSE2
vo: X11 running at 1680x1050 with depth 24 and 32 bpp (":0" => local display)
Linux RTC init error in ioctl (rtc_irqp_set 1024): Inappropriate ioctl for device
Try adding "echo 1024 > /proc/sys/dev/rtc/max-user-freq" to your system startupscripts.
As a user, I also get the message:
Warning unknown option vo_dxr3_device at line 6
Only mplayer works. I have added the line "echo 1024 ..." in rc.local, but it's useless. I got some messages after running ./configure which might be relevant:
NOTE: Win32 codec DLLs are not supported on your CPU (x86_64) or your
operating system (Linux). You may encounter a few files that cannot
be played due to missing open source video/audio codec support.
Check configure.log if you wonder why an autodetection failed (check whether
the development headers/packages are installed).
If you suspect a bug, please read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html.
You've disabled VIDIX. Although it would be better to PORT it instead.
Have a look at the documentation for supported cards!
So I'm still unfortunately unable to see any videos with any player.

It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your

DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.
