It appears that certain applications I.E. Samba, will not display the complete window. It appears that the bottom portion of the window (where the buttons are) is cut off.

Cant remember, but there are a few applications that this happens when they are ran.

Is it possibly the video mode? or maybe KDE causing the problem???

All the "experts" here and no one knows te answer???
Really getting me to thinking.....

This sometimes happens if your resolution is set to 800x600. Usually hiding the panel is enough to reveal the hidden buttons. Or, you could try setting the resolution to 1024x768.

Pressing Alt and clicking on the window will enable you to move it around with the mouse so that any part of the window is displayed.

It is hard to tell what is causing the trouble based on the limited information provided.
Gets me to thinking too. Why would you expect an answer? You provide no useful information. If you can not be bothered to take the time to analyze the problem, take notes so you know which applications are being affected, check your log files for any pertinent error messages, clearly describe what you see on the screen so others can provide useful feed back, how can you expect any one else to be bothered to take the time to try to help you? As far as I know, no one here is psychic, or sitting behind you looking over your shoulder at your screen. Most of the people who frequent this forum do so because they want to be of help, but none of them are under any obligation to do so. Any help you receive is a gift and should be treated as such. If you do not know how to ask a question, look up one of Simon Bridge's posts. His signature includes links to tutorials on the subject. If I sound as if I am scolding you or have taken offense, I am, and I have. If my reaction offends you, read your follow up post as if you were me. If you are still offended, I suppose you will have to deal with it.

Just off the top of my head, if the windows on your screen are too large for the display, it may be zoomed in. As an example, your screen size is set to 1024x768, but the display is zoomed in to 800x600. What you see is enlarged proportionately and part of the screen is not visible. To see the parts of the screen outside the display, you may be able to move the mouse against the edges of the display, or while holding the ALT key you may be able to drag the screen with the mouse. If this sounds like what you are experiencing, you may be able to use one or the other of the following keyboard combinations to make the screen match the display:

CTRL ALT + = next larger display resolution
CTRL ALT - = next smaller display resolution

If this is not the problem, follow up by giving us something to work with.

Since I am a newbie, and trying to learn how to use linux effectively, I am sure that I speak for a lot of other newbies when I say we DON'T always know what we are doing. We are here because we are wanting to give linux a shot.

Many times on the forums, the information given assumes that we are seasoned users. If we were, we probably wouldn't be posting the "dumb questions".

If there is someone that is willing to help with an issue, and there isn't enough information, in most cases all that is necessary is for that person to ask simple instructive questions.

Sometimes, a log file may be required to deteermine the problem, HELL, I don't even know how (or where to look) for a log file, but if asked for it, I will try to figure it out. Since we are newbies it may take a little more explaining than "post the results of the log file."

Not getting a response to a post assumes that no one knows the answer to the issue posted.

I see a lot of good assistance and some very knowledgable linux users, therefore I have to assume that most questions that have came up, are solvable issues, or the request is impossible.

I spend a lot of time reading the posts and searching for my answers on several forums, I try to only post when I have an issue that I have researched the previous posts.

I am not trying to bust your chops, I would just like the people who offer some assistance, to be more understanding of what we as newbies face. Coming from a DOS/win environment and stepping into linux is a challenge at best for most people.

all we are asking is to not be so hard on us.... walk us through the issue. That way the next time a user has a similar issue, we may be able to offer some input as well.

As for the question at hand... My resolution is set at 1024X768.
CTL+ALT + or minus offers no change.

at the moment SAMBA is the only application in the GUI that I have the problem with. I moved the task bar to the right to allow more room on the screen, that helped some, but when SAMBA opens it seems like it has a preset window size that "Doesn't remember the last open window size", therefore every time it opens i have to adjust the size of the window in order to access the buttons at the bottom.

I remember that when I open MCC it does the same thing (buttons off the screen) but seems prevalent only in the hardware section. Oh and the KB3 window has similar issue as well.

As for a log file, as stated above I don't know how to open or view it, but will check some of the ther posts to see if i can learn how to open it for viewing, and which file to look at to find the information.
