No Write Acess for External Drive

I have an older Western Digital external hard drive and I can read from it but can't write to it. When I type the mount command I see it listed with rw.

Quote:
mount
/dev/sda7 on / type ext3 (rw)
none on /proc type proc (rw)
/dev/sdb1 on /media/hd type vfat (rw,umask=002)
/dev/sdb2 on /media/hd2 type ext3 (rw)
sdb1 & sdb2 are the external drive. I can write to sdb2. Below is my fstab file. sdb1 is formatted as vfat and sdb2 is ext3.

Quote:
cat /etc/fstab
# Entry for /dev/sda7 :
UUID=3b2d9d1b-fa4e-4492-afda-b4020d65b068 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/sr0 /media/cdrom auto umask=0,users,iocharset=utf8,noauto,exec 0 0
# Entry for /dev/sdc1 :
UUID=6B2D-EE0B /media/hd vfat defaults,umask=002 0 0
# Entry for /dev/sdc2 :
UUID=b998cea0-62e3-42fe-a57c-dbed4457742b /media/hd2 ext3 defaults 1 2
# Entry for /dev/sda1 :
UUID=423856F73856E985 /media/hd3 ntfs-3g defaults,umask=002 0 0
# Entry for /dev/sda2 :
UUID=42b5a265-7445-4b82-a823-3b434d46c63c /media/hd4 ext3 defaults 1 2
# Entry for /dev/sda5 :
UUID=157fc2fd-d695-4c9a-b4f4-d2c8c7ad38a8 /media/hd5 ext3 defaults 1 2
# Entry for /dev/sda8 :
UUID=2a18398f-04a4-4299-9b02-d9bfd43945b7 /media/hd6 ext3 defaults 1 2
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
# Entry for /dev/sda6 :
UUID=6e2531e2-0275-449a-900c-b10d5bc9b0cb swap swap defaults 0 0
How can I get write access to it? I need it for backup purposes.

Thnx.

Never mind, I figured it out. I don't know why it would be under 'Disk Partition' module. For a newbie it can be dangerous, he/she could wipe their drive clean.

And I noticed in my /etc/fstab entry they're showing as /dev/sdc1 & /dev/sdc2 when they're sdb1 & 2.
