No sound.. please help mandrake 10.1 official
I just installed 10.1 official and I can't get sound from my Sound Blaster Live 5.1.... I can get onboard sound from mobo though. I need sound from my sound blaster... I've tryed using almost everywhere sound driver that mandrake came with, and none of them work!! I think my Nforce onboard sound is set to default sound, how do I change this?
Also, I've been having a hard time installing firefox 1.0 on here, I can get to the setup, but I can't get it to run..
I have used the search, all the posts are scattered about and I can't pinpoint my answer.
Thanks for the help.

Heh, heh, not even thirty minutes, and you got it fixed. Good going. Don't forget to change your distro in the member info, from 9.2 to 10.1. I just had to do mine. LOL Have a good one, and have fun with the new distro. I am.

First of all, we would need to know exactly which distro that you are using. Even though in my sig, I say that I am running Mandrake 10.1, I was till sometime after my last post when my drive started to fail. I am on another drive with Fedora Core 2(FC2), and still am getting my feet wet with this particular distro.
I have found that most distros anymore are no longer having the sound card configured by default anymore. You have to go into the kicker and pull up Kmix in order to even have the sound card on. It will then show the icon over by the clock. From there you can play with the controls to configure the sound card. Do not "x" out the sound card or the icon will disappear and so will your sound, as that is turning it off. Leave it on, but right click on the icon and click on hide mixer. Then when you shut down and reboot, it will come up everytime. Well, at least it does with me. Welcome to Linux and have fun.
