Yes, I have tried using mixer.. I made sure tht it is not mute.. I also tried changing the drivers in xmms i.e options -> preferences -> Drivers but none of them seems to work.. among other test.. I tried the command:

$cat /dev/urandom >/dev/dsp

when i type this command it starts thinking.. meaning there is no output nor does it go back to the command prompt.. I have to use ctrl^Z to kill it.. so does it mean its sending but nothing is happening..

yes I checked PCM and master, and all are green and its not muted..

I want to know if Mandrake has installed the driver module by itself does it always mean its the right driver? coz I think the driver may not be the right one..

post the O/P of

lspci

also the support for the driver must be in the kernel
if it is not then mandrake might have installed the support by itself

run

sounddrake

to choose driver for ur sond card manually

if the support for ur driver is in the kernel then no problem or else u need to get the driver and install that

now u can see that it is showing the driver as unknown device in lspci
so let me if there is support for this

u need to run
sounddrake
in a shell

regards

Why not just upgrade to version 10.1? 9.1 is pretty old by now.
