I've checked all my connections and mixer settings but can't seem to figure out why my computer will not make a single sound. No matter what program is used (even my TV card). Any ideas?
The sound card is (correctly recognized by Mandrake as) a Sound Blaster Live! card. I had Red Hat installed previously and it worked fine (though I couldn't play audio CD's, but I suspect that had more to do with my DVD drive).
Try aumix -v100 in case the volume is just set to 0 by default. If that works, aumix -v100 -S will save the settings to .aumixrc so it gets set every time you log in.
try run
draksound
and see if it helps to choose a different driver (some cards have more than one - I had to choose a different one from the one mandrake used by default).
You can draksound from a terminal (by that command, as root) or in mandrake control center (I think under sound).
