No sound in Compaq presario v6000 under Mandriva Linux
recently I have purchased a Compaq presario v6000 laptop with vista os. But I have deleted vista and installed mandriva linux only. Now the problem I am facing is that there is no sound. As per instruction in internet, I have downloaded and installed alsa-1.0.14rc4. But it also doesn't work.
When I use the command: sudo alsaconf, after few steps I get the following message: Loading driver... Doing alsactl to store mixer settings... [ OK ] Shutting down ALSA sound driver (version 1.0.9b): no. (sound is [FAILED]ed by pid 6724)) ALSA driver (version 1.0.9b) is already running. Setting default volumes... amixer: Invalid command! amixer: Invalid command! Plz suggest what I should do now (I am not expert in linux installation). Thanx - Dilip |
You probably have a program running in the background that has the sound device open. Either shut down all sound programs, or simply reboot.
Also, to better maintain your Mandriva installation, I have a build environment that will build and install the rpms for the driver, libs and utils. You can get it here. Just untar it, then (as root), run "make && audio_install". Let me know if you have problems after this. Also, if you do run into issues, could you post the link from running this script. |
