no screen error when starting xfree86

40 gig hd
intel ethernet down

I ran mandrake 6 first and load up fine I was able go start it into xwindows and it worked fine it saw my network cardautomatically and i was able to get on the internet, but I wanted to load the newer mandrake 10,I got a new 40 gig hd (same type as the first one) I went thru the installation and got to the boot and now i get error saying that the eth0 failed,(no internet) also I get a error no screens found, went thru the xf86cfg, and xf86config and still get the error, I made sure I selected the i810 for my graphics adapter, but still i get nothing, I have an old daewoo computer monitor 15' and I could not find the monitor verticle and horizontal scan rates on the internet so i tried to choose the lowest since its old. but to no avail. Im thinking of going back to the older version of mandrake and updating to the newest kernel, but don't want to go thru the trouble, but if i must..... is there anyone who can help?

also i get eth0 failed but yet im still able to telnet, which is very odd. if anyone has any suggestions please help?

so i finally got some refresh rates for my monitor, and I'm going to try and reinstall from scratch and see what happens.

one thing that really disturbs me is that no one has replied except myself to this issue I thought that this board was here to ask questions and spread help and information, if this is the extent of the help here I'm very disappointed.

What happened when you used the refresh rates you found? I had a similar problem where X wouldn't work until I found the specific rates for my old IBM monitor. Even the lowest choice on that list didn't work me either.

The same thing, I still get an error no screens, I thought that I might have gotten the wrong video card drivers, cause when I load my old version of mandrake 6.1 it loads fine I get into x fine and my internet runs fine, but it sees the video as s3 trio 32/64 or some thing like that (im not at the screen right now) so i changed to that still get the same issue, alos when booting up it says interface eth0 load that it failed, but in MD 6 it loads fin, in 10 it say it failed but yet im able to telnet
