I am trying to upgrade my kernel but get this error when i run
make install
No module mptbase found for kernel 2.4.25-grsec

Got any tips? What is mptbase? Do i need to configure it as m in the config?

this may be a little late in responding, but I just ran into the same prob and figured out how to solve it.

Before running make install edit /etc/modules.conf and modprobe.conf removing anything refering to mptxxxx (i.e., alias scsi mptbase)
