Hi,
I just got my ne Dell Inspirion 6000.
It great... the olny bad thing... Windows XP :-)
So, I tried installing Mandrake 10.1 (I like it) but it seems to have a problem with the cd/dvd drive. I have a NEC ND-6500 A drive. The message I get is: "NO CDROM DEVICE FOUND".
I have seen in some other threads people posting quiet similar problems. But there was no real solution for it!
Is it a distribution problem?
Well, couldn't find any pages of people complaining it didn't work using google. Found several saying it worked just fine. So must be a distro thing.
But it's mostly related to the fact that you bought a dell. Dude, I feel sorry for you. That wonderful 20% markup in price for the word dell on the case is just priceless.

Caeda, if you don't have anything constructive to say, please don't post. Thanks.
Caeda, I'd prefer to discuss this in private, but you don't accept emails, so...
Your reply has not much information (the default didn't work for him/her, right?), you didn't know how to help with this one. That happens. But what was the later comment about Dell for? It was simply not needed. LQ is a newbie-friendly site and that's not a typical LQ type of answer.
