im using Mandrake 10.1 - and im getting no audio from cd, i cant hook up cd cable to soundcard as i have a laptop are there any work arounds (perhaps a driver or some hack for the OS which will enable all applications to get audio from cd's digitally?) - ive even tried xmms with digital extraction and this application crashes when i try to play an audio cd through it :O
ive read through this forum for similar topics, and it seems the solution has always stopped with 'connect audio cable' - unfortunatly i dont have that ability
im not a linux pro, ive only been using it for 3 days now, but im fairly confident that i can understand what ever answers you put, and i thank you in advance.
Hi,
Have you got any sound on your laptop ?
If you have 10.1 you probably have Kaffeine, or you can even get Totem, both
good media players.
Now to get sound, perhaps you should check if your audio mixers are un-muted
(aumix or another one, just check)
Then ,at last, try to run "alsaconf" in a console, su to "root", password, then type
alsaconf, hit "enter"... it should recognize your sound card.
Hope that helps
yes i forgot to mention - audio from hard disk works fine, ive also checked all sound is unmuted when checking through other posts solutions.
ive tried totem, - and that failed to get sound from a cd as well, but my main concern is getting audio from a dvd's - i watch dvd's far more than i listen to music on my laptop. - ive tried xine, totem, kaffeine, ogle, and none play sound.
Can you see your films or do you get no pictures, no sound ?
You need to have certain libraries installed to be able to play your dvds and
incidentally windows media or any kinda video files.
You need libdvdread, libdvdcss, I think. win32codecs, for, well, windows files.
Strange if you can watch a film and get no sound. Never happened to me...
fortunatly its playing sound now, but i cant hear it, as the volume is so low, is there anyway i can enhance the volume above 100% (ive tried to up it via kmix, aumix and all the players)
it seems that the 1.0.5 version has a bug with some onboard soundcards, - however im using 1.0.6 - im a little reluctant to downgrade to 1.0 (which seems to be stable according to that posting) - it is a little old :/
do you feel its worth a shot?
surely there is a software out there which can amplify the volume greater than 100% without having to have some super speakers with built in amplifier
