nm256_audio on Acer Travelmate 723TX
I've been trying to get sound working on my Acer Travelmate 723TX laptop.
Tried a few solutions I've seen by googling, but none relate either to Mandrake nor to the Travelmate and none have worked. At the moment it hangs on insmod during boot :( It uses one of those Godawful NeoMagic NeoMedia 256AV sound adaptors that likes to share I/O space with the graphics adapter. I've tried with other distros and earlier versions of Mandrake before but thught by now the problem would have been solved. Any ideas please before I give up completely? |
i had that chip to work on a dell inspiron, but that was a while ago...
nm256 is supported fully by kernel, before i had to recompile to get it to work... |
It seems the chip is supported by the kernel but it still doesn't work.
Can't open the mixer for starters. I tried force_load=1 as suggested somewhere else but that's what caused it to hang on boot. Still looking for a working solution. |
i remember that i had to compile kernel and modules in a certain way... it was kinda hassle but at the end it worked great.
even if this is kinda dated... try this: http://www.post1.com/home/kal/inspiron3500.html dont enable support for nm256 and try to compile the way detailed on the above-mentioned site... you should get basic sound. |
Thanks, I'll give that a try when I get a few hours to myself and let you know how it went :)
