The Lucent modem is actually a Winmodem - it has no onboard controller. Instead it uses the operating system and cpu. I'm still in process trying to get mine to work on my laptop. At present, I have a pcmcia modem taking up one of my slots.

I had the same problem with my Toshiba 1905, it has a Lucent modem and found this page that details how to install it in RH, but is basically the same with Mandrake.

Please give further information on your modem!

You could go to
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/modemident.html to download a program that could tell something about your modem and post it.
So, i could tell you which modules or rpm you need.

I assume you had download a linux format zip. Next you got do was to extract where ever you want then run a .sh file which named either "scan modem" or "list modem" in that extracted folder.
If you have gotten an window format zip, then just unzip it to a directory. and just by double click the file to run it.

Then, please post the output of that in order to let me decide which rpm do you need to fix your modem.

could this be better?

ltmodem

http://ranger.dnsalias.com/mandrake/...-2mdk.i586.rpm

if you didn't upgrade your kernel you maight have 2.4.21.0.13

so ltmodem-kernel is here

http://ranger.dnsalias.com/mandrake/...-2mdk.i586.rpm

if you have a different kernel let me know...

sorry for my last message...
