Question newbie configure speedtouch router help

Have just installed Mandriva 2006. As a windows user I am used to having all hardware configured for me automatically. When I try to configure I get the message: due to missing/mnt/usr/share/speedtouch/mgmt*.o.

From somewhere I was told "copy the Alcatel microcode as mgmt.o in/usr/share/speedtouch/

I've had some instructions on how to do this, but it don't make sense to me.
Could anyone explain to me in english, without any jargon, what is happening and what I need to do.

Regards
Tommy

Have you download the Alcatel drivers? From my time using a Speedtouch under Mandrake (as it was then) it was simply a case of copying across the alcatel driver into the correct location. The instructions were pretty straightforward. Maybe if you include the link to where you got the driver from and the instructions you have been provided with, me might be able to help.

Hi. Thanks for your interest. The following is the exact wording of the instructions:

"What you need to download is the modem's microcode provided with Thomson's drivers. You have two possibilities:

It can be found in the form of two files:

A mgmt.o file found in the GNU/Linux package
A alcaudsl.sys file found in the WindowsTM package
(If your modem is already running under windows, you can avoid downloading it by taking the file in c:\windows\system).
GNU/Linux drivers on Thomson's site : http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/dvrreg_lx.htm "

Whats a "mgmt.o" file? I,ve looked but cant find it.

I've found the "alcaudsl.sys" file and copied it to a floppy. However, when I try to put it in the file it's being asked to copy it to (see above post) it tells me it cant find a "mgmt*.o" file.
