currently i am totally new to dis linux... so hope u guys dun mind to help me to ans some newbie stuff.. i am going to install mandrake.. as it's one of the more easy version of linux fer a newbie.. i wish to know if i juz wan to install only tt into my system and delete off dis win xp.. how can i go abt doing it? and my modem's driver does not support linux, is there other ways to get other driver to replace it? the modem is Prolink Hurricane 7000..

There are some default modem drivers, so you can try making a connection after installing. Installing Mandrake is pretty much slap-in-the-disks-and-let-it-work-it's-magic. Pictures of the install process can be found at LinuxBeta - the installation is 10.1Beta, but the screens are pretty much the same. When you reach the partition stage, do a custom setup; Mandrake will usually suggest that you keep the Windows partitions and dual-boot (so when you boot your PC, you will be asked whether you want to use Linux or Windows) - but if you click on the Windows partitions during partitioning, you get the option to erase them. You will need a system partition (signified by a "/") and a swap partition. You can make more, but they are optional.
