it will appear to hang & do nothing, but that's ok. it's searching for sound devices. when it's done, it will show you what it found & ask you if it's correct. if so, accept it. it will then set up the sound & give you a chance to test sound. when it's all done, use kicker->multimedia->sound & run aumix to set volume levels. save the settings. you can also go to the same menu & use kmix to make KDE specific volume adjustment, but you need to use aumix for the settings to stick after reboot or shutdown.
