New ver. XMMS problems with 10.0
I installed Mandrake 10.0 Community yesterday doing the upgrade from 9.2. Pretty much everything seems to be working great, except for XMMS. The program opens, but as soon as you go to play something, it either closes or locks up and I have to force the "end process". I think I have had it play a song once, all it really does is lock up. Anybody have this problem too, or have a solution to it?
I have removed and reinstalled it once, still the same thing. I am about to go pull the RPM's off of the 9.2 CD's being they worked.

yeah i had the same problem
I turned off sound system in the KDE control center and it fixed it
Apparently KDE "previews" sound files when u hover over them, it causes problems with xmms.

Yes, I had the same exact problem. However, you can keep KDE's sound system on. Go into menudrake. Click on xmms. Delete the word "soundwrapper" in the command textbox and save. Does the same job and you don't need to turn off KDE's sound system.

I just deinstalled the "bundled" xmms and got the new one. Every library xmms needs is on the cd's so you only need to download the last version of it.

OK, eleiminating0 "soundwrapper" from the command line didn't seem to work for me, I tried the sound system, disabling then enabling it seems to work, but only for a while, then XMMS does the same thing again. Then I have to enable and then disable the sound system again. This is strange.
e.g. 7 hours after sound was working by disabling sound system, I wanna use XMMS again, the problem returns, therefore forcing me to enable, then disable the sound system.

Hi,
Just a thought, but have you tried to change the XMMS' output plugin? By default, it is the OSS plugin and this plugin should work with whatever audio plugin you have selected for your audio card... With Mandrake 10.0, it is Alsa. However, there is a bug (maybe already fixed in 10.0 Update ftp site) with XMMS. If you set the XMMS' output plugin to Alsa ou aRTs, it should work! Keep in mind that, there are some problems still not fixed with KDE and the aRTs soud server versus Mandrake Linux...
