Angry New User - Modem Problem.

I have a multi OS PC and recently installed Mandrake Linux on it. After I installed Mandrake, I am unable to dial out using my other OSs. I only have to boot with Mandrake and then it dials. Why is this ? Before I installed Mandrake, this was not the case and I could use any OS I had to dial out freely. Will this problem rectify itself if I remove/uninstall Mandrake ?

This has nothing to do with Mandrake.

The problem lies with your other OS.

You may want to start by powering down your machine, remove the power cord, hit the power button (as if you were going to turn it on) to discharge any remaining energy in the capacitors and then hooking things back up and turning it on.

Make sure that you boot directly into the "other" OS.

This will probably clear what you are seeing.

The other OS is Debian. I also use knoppix from CD boot sometimes on this PC.

I will give your suggestion a shot and share the outcome here.

Thanks.

Hmmm...

I had assumed windows, and that you were dealing with a resource reconfiguration by the OS.

I uninstalled Mandrake from my PC just to be safe and reinstalled the dialer. Now that OS connects. Also before I tried to use Damn Dmall Linux from the CDROM and that didn't connect either. After removing Mandrake it is connecting now.
